Recent developments in degeneration of the sympathetic neuron.

چکیده
Degeneration of the sympathetic neuron can be achieved by a variety of procedures. Until 1960 the most common method for producing degeneration of postganglionic sympathetic nerve fibers was either to surgically remove the neuronal cell body, or to cut the extrinsic nerve fibers between the cell body and the effector organ. In recent years a number of chemical agents and immunological methods have become available for producing successful degeneration of sympathetic nerves in experimental animals. The purpose o f this review is to briefly outline various approaches used to produce sympathetic degeneration, and also to discuss possible mechanisms involved in the process of degeneration. Secondary effects of sympathetic degeneration, namely, "degeneration contraction" (a short-lasting sympathomimetic effect produced by leakage of noradrenaline (NA) from degenerating nerves) and "denervation supersensitivity" (a long-lasting effect produced by a loss of the neuronal uptake mechanism for NA, plus increased responsiveness of the effector organ to NA), will not be covered in this review. For discussion of these secondary effects the reader is referred to articles by Trendelenburg (1972) and Thoenen (1972).

Subacute combined degeneration : report of two cases
Subacute combined degeneration ( SCD) due to vitamin B12 deficiency is common in North of Europe but sometimes it is seen in Iran. It can develop before the symptoms of anemia is obvious, with myelin injury and then axon and even neuron destruction in spinal cord, brain, optic and peripheral nerves. In this study two cases are reported; in the first patient, this disease in manifested by vitami...

Objective(s) Motor deficit and neuron degeneration is seen after nerve transection. The aim of this study is to determine whether a poled polyvinelidene fluoride (PVDF) tube with other supportive strategies can protect the neuronal morphology and motor function after sciatic nerve transaction in rats. Materials and Methods After transection of the left sciatic nerve in 60 male Wistar rats (2...

This article is a brief exposure of the process approach to a newly emerging area called "discrete event systems" in control theory and summarizes some of the recent developments in this area. Discrete event systems is an area of research that is developing within the interstices of computer, control and communication sciences. The basic direction of research addresses issues in the analysis an...
متن کاملDiabetes Mellitus Type1 and Neuronal Degeneration in Ventral and Dorsal Hippocampus
Background and Objectives: Studies have documented the morhplogical, neurochemical and functional difference between the dorsal and ventral zones of hippocampus. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of chronic diabetes mellitus type1 on ventral and dorsal zones of hippocampus. Methods: Experimental diabetes was induced by stereptozotocin at a dose of 60 mg/kg. At the end of 8 wee...
متن کاملCardiac sympathetic afferent cell bodies are located in the peripheral nervous system of the cat.
Studies of the stellate ganglion and middle cervical ganglion indicate that sympathetic efferent nerve activity can be modified by peripheral excitatory inputs and that these neural connections may function as pathways for a peripheral reflex at the level of the thoracic sympathetic ganglia. This excitatory synaptic input could have a soma in either the central or the peripheral nervous system....
